Hurry up the Cakes is BACK from Singapore! I know I promised bite-sized updates via my Twitter (@mikeyllorin), but too many things happened over in Singapore, and we hadn’t enough time. Still, follow me anyway.

But now, here I am, tired, full, and happy. It had been a hell of a trip, so expect big posts in the coming days. Mostly about food.

In the meantime, I leave you with this. My iPad was hijacked at some point in the four days we were there, and I found two mysterious letters on my Notes app. I presume they were from fans of Hurry up the Cakes. Such sweet fellows, they were! Find out what they said (and my response) after the break.

The Sleep Score: WWE Elimination Chamber 2012

Here in Manila, WWE events that usually air via Pay-Per-View air for free on Jack TV, a local basic cable channel. Because of the time difference, the events air at 9 o’clock Monday morning, with a primetime replay at 9PM. Mondays are usually my rest days, as Tuesday to Sunday are the busy days of my week.

This means that my Monday morning is my precious sleep-in, no alarm clock time–often the most valuable morning of my week. Which means, to me, that the monthly WWE events had better be damn good for me to bother waking (and staying) up for.

Now, some shows are no-brainers–obviously must-watch shows, like last month’s Royal Rumble, next month’s WrestleMania, or an incredibly well-built card like last June’s Money in the Bank. Other shows, however, I’m not so sure about. Like this morning’s WWE Elimination Chamber.

But since I’m Vince McMahon’s abused wife the way I am, I wake up and watch them anyway.

Did I stay up? Did I like it? Did I regret it? Or did I fall asleep? And, should you? Find out after the break, on the first-ever Hurry up the Cakes Sleep Score.

The Soderno Report – Friday, February 17, 2012

Every so often, Team Hurry up the Cakes ventures off to the mostly-first-class land of Fort Bonifacio, Taguig, our old  stomping grounds in Alabang, Muntinlupa, to partake in the weekly celebration of gluttony, revelry, and sheer hedonism that is the Midnight Mercato Soderno food fair.

Last night was the last time Daryl, Charisse, and I would meet before our trip to Singapore this coming Tuesday. We decided to have a late dinner at Soderno–Daryl had a meeting early in the evening, and Char and I had a heavy lunch at Hurry up the Cakes favorite 2nd’s late in the afternoon. I was happy, excited, and starved.

First off I had… Continue reading

What’s been up (February 12-17, 2012)

Forgive the long gap between posts–it’s been a busy week over here at Hurry up the Cakes. I’ve been finishing up all my work obligations before our trip to Singapore this Tuesday, and UFC Undisputed 3 was just released and I’ve been waist-deep in it since yesterday.

But now here I am, and here’s what’s been up recently:

Wrestling crashed my Star Wars party

Earlier today, I hosted a Lego Star Wars themed birthday party for my new friend Rafa. I had to dress up as a Jedi Knight, a sort-of-generic Luke Skywalker/Obi-Wan Kenobi amalgam, while wielding a blue Anakin Skywalker lightsaber.

I resembled what Jedi Knights might look like if they retire and stay out of action for a few years.

Hurry up the Kenobi

The whole night, the children, very loudly, kept calling me “Jedi Mikey”. “Jedi! Jedi!”, they’d shout, trying to grab my attention by challenging me to lightsaber duels, or to hand them their loot bags, or to reward them with prizes for games they didn’t win.

It felt pretty good. But it was not the highlight of the evening.
